Our Difference

Tutor Doctor - Our Difference

How Tutor Doctor is Different

Our private tutors all have experience with one on one tutoring. Many of our tutors have taught in CMS or York County. A recent survey of our tutors revealed that 75% of our tutors have at least a Master’s Degree. Our tutoring takes place in your home, as opposed to a center, and is always a 1:1 student/tutor ratio. Finally, our tutoring aligns with the classroom curriculum, and the tutors collaborate with the classroom teacher, making the tutoring applicable to what the students are learning at school.

Place of learning

At Tutor Doctor
Tutor Doctor tutors come to your home, overcoming any traveling issues a family may have. If necessary, an alternate location can be found such as a library. Because the student is in a comfortable environment, the intimidation and fear of failure is removed and students become comfortable, confident, and eager to learn.

At Learning Centers
Takes place only at the specific learning center of the company. Creates inconvenience with distance traveled, wait time, and more time if more than one of family’s children is tutored.

Scheduling

At Tutor Doctor
Tutor Doctor arranges tutoring to fit into the hectic and often crowded family schedule without difficulty. No time is wasted driving, dropping off, waiting, and picking up children.

At Learning Centers
Schedule is dictated by tutoring center with very little flexibility for the family. If a session is missed due to illness or vacation, there may not be a make-up session.

Tutoring Content

At Tutor Doctor
Tutor Doctor’s process is based on the curriculum and homework from the student’s school. The school’s homework and books are the focus not an additional curriculum the student must learn.

At Learning Centers
Curriculum is often set by the center and is in addition to school work. Individualization is minimal. More stress and pressure are added to a student who may already be behind in schoolwork.

Type of Instruction

At Tutor Doctor
One-on-one instruction is proven to be the very best way to help students improve their study skills, grades, rebuild missing concepts as needed and improve confidence. Most importantly, the tutor can move at the student’s pace.

At Learning Centers
Students are grouped in a learning center with specific curriculum and little time for individual instruction or assistance.

Contact with Student’s School

At Tutor Doctor
Tutor Doctor tutors are encouraged to contact the teachers, working hand-in-hand with them to create a tutoring program that is geared towards each student’s needs. Tutor Doctor has effectively worked with teachers and schools to help students improve skills and excel in class.

At Learning Centers
There is often little or no contact with student’s current school or teachers.

Subjects and Clients

At Tutor Doctor
Tutor Doctor’s services cover all grade levels and subject matters from kindergarten to college and also work with adult learners. Tutor Doctor also works with children with special needs and learning challenges.

At Learning Centers
Most learning centers only cover specific subjects and grades and can often not tutor in more than two subjects. Centers do not often work with college students or adults and may not be able to work with special needs students.

Costs

At Tutor Doctor
Tutor Doctor offers affordable customized packages with several different payment options. There are no hidden fees for travel or for initial assessments. Payments can be made online from the comfort of your home.

At Learning Centers
Centers can be very expensive and often parents are paying off the tutoring after the student is finished. There may be additional fees for assessments or other materials. Often payments may not be made online.

Benefits

At Tutor Doctor
Tutor Doctor hours do not expire and can be transferred to or shared with other immediate family members so only one contract is required for siblings. Clients also receive online session reports and a progress update from the tutor at the end of each session. There are also monthly newsletters from Tutor Doctor.

At Learning Centers
In centers, students often must sign up individually and hours are generally not transferable. There may or may not be reports or newsletters.
